I have always been interested in creating objects. In primary school I was constantly decorating boxes, shoes, furniture; anything I was allowed to get my hands on.

I had an interest in jewellery early on, swapping beads and buttons with friends. When I was 11 years old I attended a 'working women' talk where a jeweller was featured. I felt an instant passion for the art and got right into making whatever I could with the materials available.

During high school I studied art and design through to my senior year whilst making jewellery as a hobby at home. In 2001 I attended a short two day jewellery making course at the JamFactory and from there began to understand the wonderful possibilities of metals.

I decided to continue my passion for design at University and enrolled in the Visual Communication at UniSA. I enjoyed learning about design principals and idea generation, however I was aware that I was most interested in creating work with my hands, that would result in a 3D object. By the end of my third year, I was literally cutting up bits of paper and colour photocopying the work instead of creating the projects with the computer.

During my graphic design degree I did an Intro to Jewellery subject as an elective and rediscovered my passion for making wearable art. I ended my Vis Comm degree in 2004 and immediately started studying a Visual Arts and Applied Design degree at TAFE SA, Adelaide Centre for the Arts, which I completed in 2006.

After my Jewellery study I immediately moved to a bench space at Gray Street Workshop. I have now been there for four years and feel very lucky to be able to work in a collective with other jewellers; established as well as emerging. Gray Street Workshop has an inspiring atmosphere and it makes me confident of my artistic direction and my work.

I take inspiration from many different things; clever graphic design, picture books, colour, emotions, memory, patterns, the work of various contemporary jewellers and artists, as well as unique materials and experimental techniques.
