Ever since I was young I have always been making things. I was the goober kid in school with those ugly puff paint damaged t-shirts and sand shoes. Glitter was a must. I also attacked the family kitchen chairs with decoupage and covered a giant 1970s TV entirely in red fur, however these are stories for another time.

When I was 11 years old two spokespeople for a "working women" day came to my school, one of which was a jeweller. All of the girls in my year wanted to become jewellers after this woman's talk, as did I. I was inspired to actually start making something of my enthusiasm and so I started off with beads.

Having moved on to bigger and better things in high school, design seemed like the best subject to dive into. Plus the teacher was really cool so it motivated me to be inspired by graphics. I then moved to the graphic design course at UniSA (Visual Communications) where I was continually discouraged by the fact that what I had been creating was stuck inside the computer. By the end of my third year, I was literally cutting up bits of paper and colour photocopying work instead of creating the projects on the computer. I didn't get great marks, but that wasn't the point. I was happy with what I had made.

I then knew what I had to do. I headed across the city to the TAFE SA Roma Mitchell Arts building and signed up for the Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in Jewellery design. I had completed an introductory jewellery course at the Uni as an elective so I had been waiting to take this course for a year and a half. It was just what I needed.

After completing the Bachelor in 2006, I had to make a decision about what I was to do next. In a stroke of luck there was an opening at Gray Street Workshop, an opportunity I'd be insane to give up. I moved in to the studio in January 2007 and have since made an effort to be there every day. It's an inspiring atmosphere and it makes me confident of my artistic direction and my work.

I like bright colours and books with pretty pictures. I like going on picnics and finding treasures in big second hand jumble sales. I like goat milk cheese, avocados and olives. I like good beer (Coopers of course) and I really like living in Adelaide.
